What to visit near the hotel ?
While the city centre and the famous Reims Cathedral are just a few minutes away, there are many places to visit near our hotel in the north of Reims. A few minutes from the hotel is the Musée de l'Aéronautique Locale de Bétheny. This is where the very first world aviation meeting took place in 1909! Reims has long been a major player in the development of the French aviation industry.
If you head back towards the city centre, you will certainly pass the Museum of the Surrender of May 7, 1945, which commemorates the end of the Second World War. But why not 8 May then? Indeed, if history has retained the date of 8 May 1945, the date of the official surrender ceremony held in Berlin, the German forces had already signed their surrender the day before... in Reims! A certain Joseph Stalin had not been informed of this, so he did everything possible to ensure that a new surrender took place in Berlin the following day...
Once here, push on towards the city centre to discover the Mars Gate, the widest arch in the Roman world.
Discover Reims and its region
If you have some time during your stay in Reims, go to the Monastery of the Benedictine Sisters of Saint-Thierry, a few kilometres from our hotel in Reims Nord. The nuns welcome all travellers, who can even attend services, all in a peaceful, green setting. A real human experience!
A little further on is the Fort de Brimont. Another experience but radically opposed: totally abandoned, its ruins are no less impressive and are a vibrant testimony to the violence of History with a capital H.
